Homegrown Supergreens
Here you’ll find everything you need to know about microgreens and sprouts: why they’re often seen as little superfoods, which varieties are worth trying, and where to find reliable seed suppliers in your country.
We love creating tools that help you grow fresh food at home, but when it comes to seeds, we happily leave that part to the experts — ideally growers who truly know their craft and distribute seeds locally.

Sprouts vs Microgreens
Sprouts and microgreens are closely related but not identical. They’re different stages of growth, and while some seeds thrive in both forms, others are suited to only one or the other.
-
Sprouts
Sprouts are the earliest stage of a plant’s life. They grow without soil, usually in a jar or sprouting setup — or in our case, the Patina Germinanda — and you eat the whole thing: seed, root, and tiny shoot.
They’re wonderfully quick too: most sprouts are ready in just 3–5 days.
Because they’re harvested whole and have a mild crunch, sprouts are often used as the base of a salad or mixed generously into bowls and wraps. -
Microgreens
Microgreens grow a little longer. In many systems they’re raised on soil or mats, but with the Patella Crescenda they grow hydroponically — clean, soil-free, and easy to harvest with roots intact.
After 5-12 days they’ve developed real leaves, deeper flavour, and a serious nutrient boost.
Thanks to their intensity and colour, microgreens are usually added as a topping — the bright finishing touch on salads, sandwiches, soups, bowls, and more.
Nutrient-Dense from the Start
In their earliest stages, tiny greens concentrate the seed’s stored energy into each new leaf — which is why many contain far higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants than their fully grown counterparts.
Some even outperform the adult plant by a wide margin, like red cabbage microgreens with up to 40× more vitamin E.
.
Because they’re eaten fresh and raw, none of that goodness is lost to cooking or storage and what you harvest is pure, concentrated nutrition in its most vibrant form.
