Looking back at DDW 2025

October 18-26 2025 @ Piet Hein Eek

What a week we’ve had in Eindhoven! After a few days to catch our breath, it’s time to look back at Dutch Design Week 2025 — and what a wonderful edition it was. 🌿

This year, we wanted to highlight the part of our work that drives everything we do: research.

We’re endlessly curious about how things work — the systems, the science, and the hidden logic of nature. That curiosity shapes all our designs, and during DDW we finally got to show that side of our process.

The Cibus Domus – House of Food

One of the best examples of our research-driven design approach is the ongoing Poma/Olera project, in which we’ve been studying fruits and vegetables in all their fascinating detail: the biological processes of ripening and decay, ideal storage conditions, and age-old cultural preservation methods.

For this year’s Dutch Design Week, we turned that research into Cibus Domus — Latin for House of Food.

It’s both a visual and tactile exploration: we began creating illustrated information sheets for more than 180 different fruit and vegetable varieties. We haven’t gotten to them all yet (not by far), but alongside the sheets, we also introduced something playful — the Cibus Domus Quartet.

The quartet features nine categories with four fruits or vegetables each, from fast ripeners (that are best stored separately) to future foods and home-grown favourites. It’s a fun, hands-on way to share our research and get people talking about food, storage, and sustainability.

During the week, we had so many conversations with visitors who loved diving into this world of food knowledge — and many suggested turning it into a book.

We couldn’t agree more:
We’re dreaming of turning Cibus Domus into an informative guide to help people understand how fruits and vegetables work and how to make the most of them.

Growing the Poma/Olera family

Alongside Cibus Domus, we introduced four new concepts expanding our Poma/Olera collection:

Patera Matura for managing fruit ripening, Patina Germinanda for sprouting, Domus Fungi for growing oyster mushrooms, and Patella Aquatica for cultivating aquatic plants like duckweed and spirulina.

More information and photographs of all designs will follow soon.

And: One of these was such a hit that we’re already preparing a crowdfunding campaign — more on that soon!

  • A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our presentation at Piet Hein Eek — your curiosity and enthusiasm made our week.

Dutch Design Week always leaves us inspired (and a little tired), but above all deeply grateful to be part of such a creative community.

  • Missed us in Eindhoven?
    No worries!

We’ll be at Design Passage Den Haag later this month — come see Cibus Domus and the new Poma/Olera designs in person.
